Welcome Annabeth

Today we had a Skype session with Annabeth, our new teacher who will be filling in for Rachael when she is on sabbatical leave during Term 3.

We welcomed her by singing Haere Mai. Annabeth loved hearing our Te Reo. She has been living in Israel for most of the year, so misses hearing the Māori language being spoken.

It was a chance for us to ask her some questions and for her to get to know a little bit more about us.

We look forward to meeting you in person soon Annabeth. Have a safe journey back home.

We made a korowai for Annabeth to tell her
2 things we are really proud of in our learning and 1 thing we would like to get better at.

We also completed a sheet to tell her all about ourselves.

Moostery Skype

Today we played a game of Moostery Skype:
  • We were matched up with a 'mystery' school somewhere in New Zealand
  • We had to skype each other and guess the name of the other school
  • We could only ask questions that required a 'yes' or 'no' answer
  • Luckily, we had our buddies to help us use Google Maps

Here we are working furiously on Google Maps

Whereabouts are you I wonder?

Luna was our Ambassador.
She had to do all the talking to the other ambassadors online
We all had special jobs to do and our very own badge to wear

Here are some of the questions we asked:
  • Are you in the North Island?
  • Are you on the coast?
  • Do you live in a central region?
  • Do you live by a big lake?
  • Do you live in the Manawatu/Wanganui region?
  • Do you live in Palmerston North?
Somehow, even after our mystery school confirmed they lived in Palmerston North, we started searching for schools in New Plymouth? How did that happen?

Luckily, after giving us a few clues, we found them

Congratulations, St Mary's School, you won.
Thanks for the extra clues you gave us!

Thank you also to School Kit and Dairy NZ for sponsoring our game. It was awesome!

The Great Egg Drop Challenge

Rachael gave us the following challenge to complete:

We had to work as part of a team, with our buddies.

We had to work through our Learning Process to design, create and test our structure.
Lots of creativity and thought went into our structures
Some were successful....
...and some not so successful!

Oh, dear....what could we do differently next time?

Writing Instructions

How do you know when you have written some really good instructions?
Get your buddy to test them!

That's what we did today during Buddy Reading. Our buddies had to follow the instructions we had written to make a Ninja Turtle. Then they had to assess our instructions by giving us 2 stars and 1 wish.

They gave us 2 stars for 2 things we did really well.
They gave us 1 wish for something that we need to work on to improve our writing.
Thanks for helping us to improve our writing Marama.

Ryan's Back!

We welcomed Ryan back with open arms today after his recent stint with the Crusaders. Ryan was busy teaching us some basketball skills like how to dribble a ball and protect the ball from other players.

Did you know he is a star basketball player as well? We found it really tricky trying to get the ball off him!

The Playhouse Theatre

On Monday the actors from the Playhouse Theatre had us laughing out loudly as they performed their show called Red Riding Robin Hood. Our favourite part was when the King called Rachael 'Miss Giggly Pants!'

It was also fun seeing our friends from Country Kids, Mahana and Dovedale schools after the show.
